Evercade VS is clearly a 2021 consolite, though it doesn’t give up on retro-inspired details. The drawback, it is obvious, is that its hook cannot be nostalgia.

The entire design is specifically designed for this console. The slits to insert cartridges are real, the ports of the controls too (the Mega Drive Mini, for example, had a false headphone jack just because the original also had it). First, you do not have to imitate pre-existing hardware, so your entire design can be fully operational. Thanks to Koch Media, distributor of the console in Spain, we have had the opportunity to test it thoroughly.Įvercade VS starts from an advantage and a disadvantage compared to its competitors from Nintendo and Sega. NES Mini, Super NES Mini and Sega Mega Drive Mini were the great successes of a trend to which the computers of Commodore and Spectrum, and that does not turn off: for example, Atari VCSConsole from another of the great brands par excellence of the time, it can only be bought imported at the moment, but it shows that the trend is still alive.Įvercade, however, has a little more freedom of movement, and although its approach is similar to that of these consoles, its catalog (which in the end is what matters in these gadgets) includes games from legendary companies, studios and brands like Atari, Codemasters, Data East, Gaelco, Technos, Bitmap Brothers, Intellivision, Codemasters or the Oliver Twins, among others. Evercade VS is a retro console, practically plug-and-play, and that reaches the stores a few months after the avalanche that we lived a couple of years ago, when the leading classic video game companies, starting with Nintendo and Sega, put on the market devices that emulated classic titles from their respective catalogs of the eighties and nineties.
